crab.travel ("we", "us", "our") is a group travel coordination platform. This policy applies to crab.travel and all related services.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, including:

  • Account information (name, email, profile photo) via Google Sign-In
  • Profile data you enter (home airport, travel preferences, dietary needs, phone number)
  • Trip data (destinations, votes, availability, chat messages)
  • Usage data (pages visited, features used)

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide and improve our services
  • To personalize trip recommendations using CrabAI
  • To send notifications you've opted into (email, SMS)
  • To facilitate group coordination among trip members

4. SMS/Text Messaging

If you provide your phone number and enable SMS notifications on your Profile page, we will send you text messages related to trip activity. SMS is never enabled by default — you must enter your phone number and check a consent checkbox to opt in. You may also opt in by texting START to (425) 600-2722.

What data we collect

When you opt in, we collect and store your phone number. We also log message delivery status (sent, delivered, failed) for troubleshooting purposes.

How we use it

Your phone number is used solely to send you transactional SMS notifications you've opted into, including trip chat messages from group members, voting reminders, trip status updates, and booking confirmations. Message frequency varies based on trip activity. Message and data rates may apply.

Who we share it with

Your phone number is shared with Twilio, our SMS delivery provider, solely for the purpose of delivering messages to you. We do not sell, rent, or share your phone number with any third party for marketing or promotional purposes. Your phone number is never displayed to other trip members.

How to opt out

You can opt out at any time by:

  • Replying STOP to any message
  • Unchecking the SMS consent checkbox in your profile settings

For help, reply HELP to any message or contact us. Consent to receive SMS is not a condition of using crab.travel. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

5. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:

  • With other members of trips you join (name, airport, votes, availability, chat messages)
  • With service providers that help us operate (Google Cloud, Twilio)
  • When required by law

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure credential storage (Google Cloud Secret Manager), and access controls. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, but we do our best to protect your data.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data via our contact form.

8. Cookies

We use session cookies to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notice.
